According to research from Gartner, global sales of tablet computers will grow to over 320 million units by 2015. Much of this sales growth will be into the consumer market as a media consumption platform. However, more and more enterprises are evaluating and piloting tablets for their mobile workforce. Gartner projects that by 2013, 80 percent of businesses will support tablets for their employees. Enterprises are excited about the smaller form-factor and increased mobility, but they still have concerns about privacy, security, and device management.
Research In Motion surveyed over 150 corporate executives attending its Executive Summit to discover attitudes and needs regarding tablet computers in the enterprise.
- More than half of the respondents indicated that they hoped a tablet would be a laptop replacement.
- Tablet connectivity (Wi-Fi® & 3G/4G) is ranked lower than mobile device security and management.
- Enterprise tablet users want a full-featured browser that can access the entire World Wide Web with no restrictions or limitations on the browsing experience.
